The long-anticipated triaxial test system just arrived from Satec. Dr. Katti will be using it for soil testing while Dr. Kellogg and Dr. Yazdani also expect to utilize the system. Click here to read more about it!

The North Dakota Science Olympiad was held at NDSU on April 18, 1998. The Civil Engineering Department hosted the Bridge Building and Tower Building competitions. Drs. Kellogg and Andersen, along with several civil engineering students helped contestants test their bridges and towers. Teacher of the Year

Dr. Kenneth Kellogg
Dr. Ken Kellogg of the Civil Engineering Division was recently named Teacher of the Year for the College of Engineering and Architecture. He was nominated by the ASCE student chapter. Congratulations to Dr. Kellogg!


Dr. Donald Andersen    Dr. G. Padmanabhan
Dr. Donald Andersen (above left) and Dr. G. Padmanabhan (above right) were recently named Fellows of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dr. Padmanabhan recently presented the paper "Side-stream Reduction in a Wastewater Treatment Plant Using Lime Sludge From a Water Treatment Plant" at a conference in Singapore. Co-authors were Dr. Robert Zimmerman and Ramgopal Ramisetty.

Major Advisory: Dr. Wei Lin

Ryan Nagel (above middle): "Delineation of Capture Zones for Moorhead, Minnesota Well Fields."
Major Advisor: Dr G. Padmanabhan
Ryan will be starting work at Black & Veatch Consulting Engineers in Kansas City, Mo at the end of June.

Lance Schulz (above right): "An Intelligent Transportation System Application to Highway-Railroad Grade Crossings."
Major Advisor: Dr. Ayman Smadi, UGPTI
Lance is working as an ITS research engineer at the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.

Russ Sorenson: "Feasibility of Stabilizing Sugar Beet Tailings Through Windrow Composting."
Major Advisor: Dr. G. Padmanabhan
Russ is now living in Mason City, Iowa and works for Yaggy Colby Associates.

Terry Etter: "Evaluation of Natural Attentuation for Long-Term Groundwater Remediation Management."
Major Advisor: Dr. G. Padmanabhan
Terry has worked for the last six years for the Unisys Corporation in Eagan, MN and is involved in groundwater remediation projects.

Dasaradhi Tikkisetty: "Evaluation of Oxidation Reduction Potential Based Chlorination for Wastewater Treatment."
Major Advisor: Dr. Don Richard

Jennifer Gora: "Mobile Source Emission Modeling of University Drive and 25th Avenue North in Fargo, North Dakota."
Major Advisor: Dr. Don Andersen
Jennifer is working for HNTB in Minneapolis.

February 1998

Steel Bridge

The ASCE student chapter took second place in the Midwest Regional steel bridge competition hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Platteville, WI. The team will next move on to the national competition to be held in May at Fort Collins, CO. This is the 5th year in a row that NDSU has reached the nationals. NDSU won the national competition in 1995.
