 Dr. Padmanabhan on Sabbatical in Thailand and India

 

Dr. Padmanabhan, during his six months (Aug. 2004 – Feb. 2005) of sabbatical in Thailand, taught a course “Hydrology in Watershed Management” to the students of a post-graduate program in Environmental and Hazardous Waste Management at the National Environmental Research Center, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. He also interacted with the Environmental Management program faculty at Prince Songhkla University, Hat Yai, in southern Thailand. Later, he was in India for three months meeting water professionals and university faculty on water related issues.

Recently, again he was in Bangkok, Thailand, in January 10-12, 2006 for participating in an International Conference “Hazardous Waste Management for a Sustainable Future.” Dr. Padmanabhan served as an invited member of the Conference Scientific Committee. He also chaired a session, and presented a paper. During the Conference, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Chulalongkorn University and North Dakota State University for collaboration in research and graduate programs. Dr. Eakalak Khan and Dr. Padmanabhan played significant roles in facilitating efforts that culminated in signing of the MOU.

 

  With the Center for Water Resources, Anna University, Chennai, India

 

Dr. Padmanabhan also played a significant role in developing an MOU between the Center for Water Resources, Anna University, Chennai, India and North Dakota State University. The MOU has been signed paving the way for collaborative research between the two institutions.

Congratulations to MRS, NDSU Student Chapter for winning the 1st prize in the nation wide chapter challenge competetion on 'Sustainability in Materials Science and Engineering' conducted by Materials Reserach Society Headquarter (www.mrs.org)

Congratulations to ASCE, NDSU Chapter for winning 1st place in ASCE Mid-West Regional conference and 4th place in the National Steel Bridge Competetion.

Congratulations to Dr. Eakalak Khan on getting the CAREER award from National Science Foundation

Dr. Eakalak Khan, Assistant Professor, department of Civil Engineering and Construction has been awarded the prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation Civil and Mechanical Systems Division. The five year $400,000 grant is for the project entitled “CAREER: Integrated Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Research and Education on Fundamentals and Applications of Cell Entrapment for Water Pollution Control. One of several goals of this research is to advance fundamental understanding on the use of cell entrapment in waste water treatment.

“The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious awards for new faculty members. The CAREER program recognizes and supports the early career-development activities of those teacher-scholars who are most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century. ” NSF
