Title:  Long-term Ecological Studies of Created Wetlands in North Dakota

Focus Categories:  Wetlands, Ecology

Project No.  ND94-07

Principal Investigator

Richard D. Crawford rcrawfor@badlands.NoDak.edu

Department of Biology, UND

Completion Report

Crawford, R.D., 1997, Long-term Ecological Studies of Created Wetlands in North Dakota, Rept. No. ND94-07, North Dakota Water Resources Research Institute, North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota, 11 pages.

Significant Findings

Wetlands created in 1975 to replace those lost to interstate highway construction were initially assayed for aquatic invertebrates and birds in 1981 and 1986. Assays in 1994-1995 showed approximately one-third fewer taxa of invertebrates than in 1982-1983 while bird productivity has remained stable in the wetlands.
